On her way to London to get married, Kelly (Margaret Lockwood) is trapped in a small hotel at the foot of the mountain due to an avalanche, where she meets a photographer named Mr. Gilbert (Michael Redgrave). The two get into an argument over a trivial matter, and the next day, while everyone is on their way, they end up on the same train. On the train, Kelly pairs up with an elderly woman named Miss Froy (Dame May Whitty) and takes care of each other. However, after Kelly suffers a head injury and falls into a deep sleep, she wakes up to find the elderly woman missing. Searching for Miss Froy proves fruitless, and Kelly has no choice but to report to the police. Surprisingly, everyone in her train compartment claims to have never seen an elderly woman, leaving Kelly confused. She encounters Mr. Gilbert again, who believes her and senses something strange. They gradually reconcile and begin their investigation together.
