Since childhood, Koichiro Shimada (played by Takao Osawa) has held great admiration for Dr. Albert Schweitzer, hailed as the “Saint of Africa.” As an adult, he fulfills his dream of becoming a medical professional and follows in the footsteps of his mentor, traveling to Africa to provide medical services. After spending half a year in Kenya, he and his peers go to a war-torn Red Cross hospital for medical support. There, Koichiro witnesses the most horrific scenes of humanity: young soldiers wielding guns and killing, only to be driven into minefields. The heart-wrenching cries of children cause him immense pain, while their cold and hostile gazes fill him with worry. Even more terrifying is the fact that once the children heal, they must return to the battlefield, facing certain death. Feeling the weight of his responsibility, Koichiro applies to extend his stay and, alongside nurse Yukiko (played by Satomi Ishihara), who is also from Japan, works tirelessly on the frontlines of saving lives. He is a lonely and brave lion, standing against the wind and refusing to bow…This film is based on the life of Japanese doctor Koichiro Shibata.
