In the year 700 during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, China had many exchanges with Arabia and the Middle East in terms of economy and culture. The Silk Road in the Western Regions served as a vital route for mutual interaction, and to defend its integrity, the Tang army continuously engaged in confrontations with the Turks. The border defense officer Li (Jiang Wen), unwilling to slaughter elderly, women, and children of the Turkish captives, became a wanted criminal for violating military orders. To capture him, the emperor ordered the Japanese envoy to Tang, Ki (Nakai Kiichi), who had been pleading to return home, to act as a bounty hunter, promising that if he could bring Officer Li to justice, his wish to return home would be fulfilled. At that time, the war was severe, and Ki was also tasked with escorting the general's daughter, Wenzhu (Zhao Wei), back to Chang’an. On the way, he encountered Officer Li, and after a great battle, the two reached a stalemate, agreeing to meet again outside Chang’an to settle their fates. Soon, they encountered a court merchant caravan escorting scripture and the bandit Xie Zi'an (Wang Xueqi), who coveted the camel caravan, setting the stage for a life-and-death battle.
