Sean (Emile Hirsch) and Ben (Max Minghella) are two software engineers from the United States who travel to Moscow to discuss business after developing a new software. They go to a bar for fun at night and meet Natalie (Olivia Thirlby) and Anne (Rachael Taylor), who are visiting from the U.S. The four of them flirt and enjoy themselves, but they are soon caught in a cataclysmic event when aliens invade Moscow in an energy field form. In an instant, any living being that comes into contact with them is obliterated. The four young Americans manage to hide and, as night falls, attempt to escape the devastated Red Square. They discover that electricity can sense the presence of the aliens and find a geeky old man who has set up an electromagnetic field in his home. Together, they work to find all surviving individuals and use their knowledge of electromagnetism to strike back against the aliens...
