In 2023, the "Purge" initiated by the new government in the United States has entered its sixth year. The extreme policies taken aim to suppress the rising unemployment and crime rates, yet during this period, more and more innocent people fall victim, while the wealthy indulge in their cups, fat and happy, participating in the annual slaughter fest with a seemingly noble and elegant demeanor. As the massacre is about to begin, a couple, Shane (played by Zach Gilford) and Liz (played by Kiele Sanchez), whose relationship is on the rocks, find themselves stranded on the road. In their panic, they search for a place to hide. Meanwhile, Eva (played by Carmen Ejogo) and her daughter Carly (played by Zoë Soul), who have just lost their most important family member, also face imminent doom while hiding at home. At a critical moment, they are saved by a sergeant (Frank Grillo) patrolling the city alleys, and at the same time, Shane and Liz unintentionally hitch a ride with the sergeant.
