Mitsuko (Setsuko Karasuma), a research student at a theater troupe, always carries the scent of love. Working at a bunny girl club, Mitsuko meets Takizawa (Masahiko Tsugawa), a loan shark, and spends a night with him. Mitsuko has a yakuza brother named Shinobu (Takeshi Kitano). Shinobu learns of Mitsuko's relationship with Takizawa and targets him for money. Takizawa heads to the funeral of a friend who has suddenly passed away in Matsumoto, and Mitsuko accompanies him. Left alone during the funeral, Mitsuko wanders into the late-night streets and meets a young man named Itaru (Koichi Sato), who is working part-time at a construction site, and they spend a night on the rooftop of a department store together. Drawn to Mitsuko, Itaru takes the same express train to Tokyo. One day, Mitsuko's friend Hikiko (Hiroko Isayama) tells her, "You are Manon. Manon Lescaut." Wandering the nightlife with no destination, Itaru steals money from a supermarket cash register and rushes to Takizawa's company. Takizawa feels a strange fondness for the reckless Itaru. Director Yoichi Sai, known for his best works like "Third," which won numerous Japanese film awards, continues to explore the theme of "women's independence" in various films such as "No More Cheek Support," "Shiki: Natsuko," "Love Letter," "The Rape," and "Wangan Road," with 'Manon' being considered his masterpiece. However, after its release in 1981, distributed by Toho-Towa, the film was limited in screenings due to being an independent work, leading fans to regard it as the only elusive work of Director Sai.
