Libby (played by Charlize Theron) has a tragic childhood that she cannot look back on with ease; her mother and two sisters fell victim to a twisted serial killer and were brutally murdered in a pool of blood. Libby was fortunate to escape, and later she stood in court to identify her brother Ben (played by Corey Stoll) as the perpetrator, resulting in his imprisonment. This tragedy sparked a strong societal response, with people writing letters and donating money to the unfortunate Libby. With the help of these donations, Libby grew up, but the shadows of her past turned her into a woman who wasted her days in self-destruction. As time passed, Libby began to fade from public memory, and the donations dwindled, leading her life to worsen. Just then, a young man named Lyle (played by Nicholas Hoult) found her and spent a lot of money to bring Libby to a "Killer Club." Under the encouragement of the club's quirky members and Lyle, Libby began to revisit the case she had been avoiding, and some doubts started to surface.
