Set against the backdrop of the relentless British war in 1940, with daily enemy air raids, the despairing hearts of the people are more shattered than the war-torn London itself. Faced with the unpredictability of life, cinema becomes the only solace for the soul. The Ministry of Information’s film department seeks to boost national morale and public spirit by producing a political propaganda film. To incorporate a female perspective, Katherine (Gemma Arterton), a copywriter, is invited to join the writing team alongside chief editor Buckley (Sam Claflin) to pen a script that celebrates the bravery of the British during the Dunkirk operation. The masculine Buckley meets the gentle Katherine, and their exchanges are filled with sarcasm and banter. However, as they experience the chaos of rapid shooting and writing together, a sense of understanding and budding love quietly develops.
