Jim (Cary Grant) is an advertising agent who has been married to his wife Muriel (Myrna Loy) for many years. Together, they raise two lovely daughters, Joan (Sharyn Moffett) and Betsy (Connie Marshall). To outsiders, Jim’s marriage seems perfect, his job stable, and his income substantial, but the house Jim's family lives in is rented, which has become a source of worry for the entire family. Most of the arguments at Jim's home revolve around the house, giving Jim the illusion that if they could have their own home, the endless disputes would cease. Soon, a large villa in the suburbs catches Jim's attention, and he decides to move the whole family there. He thought it would solve everything, but soon, events unfold beyond Jim's control.
