University professor Sonoko Shūkich (played by Katsu Shichijū), residing in Kamakura, lost his wife early in life and lives with his daughter, Kiko (played by Hara Setsuko). Kiko has shouldered the family's responsibilities since childhood, taking care of her father's daily needs. In the blink of an eye, Kiko is now twenty-seven years old and still unmarried. Kiko's aunt (played by Sugimura Haruko) and her friend (played by Tsukioka Yumiro) are concerned about her marriage, but she is reluctant to discuss it due to her attachment to her father. Shortly after, the aunt introduces Shūkich to a single woman, Miwa Akiko (played by Miyake Kuniko), and Shūkich happily agrees. Upon hearing this, Kiko feels an endless sense of melancholy...
