Anaïs Nin (played by Maria de Medeiros), the wife of banker Hugo (played by Richard E. Grant), is a glamorous yet wild woman obsessed with the writings of D. H. Lawrence. Through her husband, Anaïs meets the rough and disheveled novelist Henry Miller (played by Fred Ward), and she becomes enamored with this insightful man, only to be drawn to Henry's wife, June (played by Uma Thurman). Under June's request, Anaïs begins to take care of Henry's life, running around for his novel "Tropic of Cancer," which leads to a series of wild and passionate encounters... This film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Screenplay in 1991.
