On Boys' Day, 阿寅 (played by Kiyoshi Atsumi), who has just returned from a trip, initially planned to buy carp streamers to celebrate for his nephew, but he ends up having a disagreement over some trivial matters. Feeling downcast, he decides to embark on a journey once again. Along the way, he coincidentally discovers a melancholic woman wandering by the river, and upon returning to his inn, he unexpectedly encounters her again. Feeling deep sympathy, 阿寅 invites her to taste the local specialty, which leads him into financial trouble. On his way back, 阿寅 meets an elderly man of noble descent and a strange bond forms between them. This elderly man has lost his young son, and his daughter-in-law, Tachiko, has left home. Initially, a conflict arose between him and Tachiko due to her commoner background, but now he longs to find her and ease his inner turmoil. By chance, it turns out that Tachiko is the very woman that 阿寅 met at the inn. Both are anxious yet eager to meet, and they finally resolve their misunderstandings. The elderly man even considers having 阿寅 become Tachiko's life partner, placing 阿寅 in a dilemma and turmoil. He doesn't know how to choose, but his heart is filled with anticipation for the future and the emotions of love.
