On a midsummer night when the Duke's father was away, the servant Jean (Colin Farrell) and the cook Christine (Samantha Morton) tease each other, while Julie (Jessica Chastain) eagerly wants Jean to dance with her. Initially, Jean refuses due to their class differences, but eventually, they engage in a relationship.
