The story takes place in the summer of 1988. Shinozaki Enma (played by Masaki Suda) is an ordinary second-year high school boy. Long ago, his mother Yoshiko (played by Yuko Tanaka) chose to run away from home because she could no longer endure the violence of his father A-en (played by Ken Mitsuishi). Now, as he grows up, Enma vows never to become a man like his father. Enma has a childhood friend and girlfriend, Chizuku (played by Misaki Kinoshita). During his time with Chizuku, Enma is shocked to discover that the violent genes inherited from his father are hidden within him and are now stirring. He knows that the impulses he has been suppressing will one day be unleashed onto Chizuku, and that day is not far off. A-en's new lover, Kotoko (played by Yuki Shinohara), is also suffering from his violence. Pregnant with his child, Kotoko too chooses to run away from home. Enma informs his father about this, igniting the fuse of tragedy.
