On the eve of the July 7 Incident, the Chinese American youth Xiao Hendler (played by Eddie Peng) travels across the ocean back to Beiping, where he hasn’t been for over a decade to practice medicine. However, his real name is Li Tianran. When he was thirteen, he witnessed his master’s family being exterminated by his senior brother Zhu Qianlong (played by Liao Fan) and the Japanese, Ichiro Negamba (played by Kenta Satoi). The lucky escapee Tianran was sent to America by Dr. Hendler, where he underwent rigorous training, and now he returns home with a top-secret mission. The Hendler family rents a house from the mysterious man Lan Qingfeng (played by Jiang Wen), who was a participant in the Xinhai Revolution. He has close ties with the current police chief Zhu Qianlong but secretly uses the killing of Li Tianran as a bargaining chip to incite Zhu to eliminate Ichiro Negamba. Driven by revenge, Li Tianran seeks out his enemies, while Dr. Hendler does everything to prevent his adopted son from taking risks. During this process, the socialite Tang Fengyi (played by Xu Qing) and the seamstress Guan Qiaohong (played by Zhou Yun) also get caught up in the men’s conspiracies. Until the outbreak of the July 7 Incident, all conflicts reach a decisive moment... This film is adapted from Zhang Beihai's novel "The Heroic Hidden".
