Brock (played by Russell Crowe) is not only a faded boxing champion but also the father of three children. As his boxing career declines, he faces financial struggles and an unsustainable family situation. Fortunately, he has a wise and beautiful wife, Mae (played by Renée Zellweger), who understands and supports him; her lack of complaints and hard work keeps the family from losing hope. Brock sets aside his pride to stand in line for welfare, but he cannot stop the harsh winter from coming, and food shortages make survival a pressing issue.
