In 2020, a not-so-distant future, the world has undergone many changes. In that era, human boxing is no longer allowed; instead, various robots take to the ring, continuing the explosive sport and delighting the public. Former boxer Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) doesn't seem so downcast; he quickly adapts to the development of the times and repeatedly steps into the ring with his trained robot. However, misfortune strikes; he first suffers an unexpected defeat, accumulating massive debt, and then receives news of his ex-girlfriend's sudden death, leading him to meet his 11-year-old son Max (Dakota Goyo) for the first time. An unexpected encounter introduces Max to an obsolete sparring robot named Atom.
