The film is adapted from a true story set in 1950s America, where two Black entrepreneurs, Bernard (played by Anthony Mackie) and Joe (played by Samuel L. Jackson), aspire to change their destiny but face numerous obstacles due to the shackles of racial segregation. In desperation, they come up with a clever plan to hire a white man, Matt (played by Nicholas Holt), to pose as the "top boss" of their business empire, while Bernard and Joe play the roles of doorman and driver, operating behind the scenes. Just as their business empire begins to grow, they face the danger of exposure...
