In the early 1990s, the Middle East was on the brink of war, with the famous "Desert Storm" brewing. 20-year-old Anthony Swofford (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) comes from a military family, with his grandfather, father, and uncle all being heroes from various battlefields. Growing up influenced by their legacy, Anthony is determined to become a glorious soldier who makes great achievements on the battlefield. After undergoing countless brutal training sessions, he is finally deployed to the 2nd Battalion of the 7th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, officially entering the Middle Eastern war. Full of ambition, Anthony soon realizes that the brutality of war is far beyond his expectations. During this time, he discovers that his girlfriend back home is unfaithful, and he is constantly tormented by fear, emptiness, and repression, leading him to ponder the true meaning of war amidst his inner conflict... This film is based on the bestselling book by former U.S. Marine Anthony Swofford published in 2003 and won the Special Award from the San Diego Film Critics Society in 2005.
