The scruffy and unattractive Ah Q (played by Yan Shunkai) is a small character in Weizhuang who makes a living by doing odd jobs. His home is bare, so poor that he doesn't even have a surname. Despite this, Ah Q always feels good about himself, either looking down on pretentious foreigners or trying to gain favor with the landlord, Zhao Taiye. Of course, what he often receives in return is not respect, but disdain and even a beating. Fortunately, Ah Q has a set of self-comforting "spiritual victory" methods, so even though he suffers physically, he ultimately finds satisfaction mentally. Ever since he was beaten by Zhao Taiye and punished for teasing Wu Ma, Ah Q's life has become increasingly difficult. With no other options, he has no choice but to go to the city to seek a way to survive. By a series of unexpected events, Ah Q surprisingly becomes regarded as a powerful revolutionary in the eyes of the people of Weizhuang; this small character who has been oppressed for most of his life finally gets a chance to rise up... Based on the novel of the same name by Lu Xun, it won the Best Actor Award at the 2nd International Comedy Film Festival in Switzerland.
