In the 1950s, in a certain city. A Fu (played by Li Shoucheng)'s father, Zhang Qixin (played by Qi Heng), is the supply section chief of a factory. One day, he brings home a sample of a Soviet-made oil drilling bit, but unexpectedly, A Fu sells it to an old man (played by Li Baoluo) who collects scrap. With the money he earned from the sale, he buys a parachute from his classmate Yongxiang (played by Tian Feng). When Zhang Qixin notices the sample is missing and questions his son, as the factory urgently needs it, he becomes anxious and starts pacing. Realizing he has caused a great disaster, A Fu quickly takes his father and sister to look for the old man who collects scrap. After some twists and turns, they find out that the scrap has already been handed over to a recycling station, and by the time they arrive, the metal part has been sent far away to a steel mill. A Fu decides to rush to the steel mill overnight to retrieve the lost treasure, with Shuangxi (played by Zhu Huaining) and Zhang Qixin accompanying him without stopping.
