In the 1920s, the conflict between Britain and Ireland deepened, ultimately leading to the outbreak of the Irish War of Independence. Damian (Cillian Murphy), a medical student with a bright future, learns of the war and resolutely decides to join the fight. He returns to his hometown and, alongside his brother Teddy (Padraic Delaney) and friend Dan (Liam Cunningham), joins the Irish Republican Army. These young men, fueled by their passion and excellent tactics, repeatedly thwart the "Black and Tan" militia hired by the British government. Their resistance forces the British army to agree to sign a treaty; however, this also marks a crossroads where former comrades choose different paths... This film won the Palme d'Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Cinematography Award at the 2006 European Film Awards, the Audience Award for Best Irish Film at the 2007 Irish Film and Television Awards, and IFTA awards for Best Supporting Actor (Liam Cunningham) and Best Film.
