Daoist Master Ying Shu (played by Lam Ching-Ying) is determined to establish his own sect and leads five disciples in diligent practice every day. He is honest and poor, lacking any possessions, and has to take on odd jobs to make ends meet. Ying Shu is entrusted to guard a deserted mansion, where the six of them find temporary shelter. The mansion is haunted by a ghost couple from the Qing Dynasty, with the female ghost A Juan (played by Law Kar-Ying) suffering from her husband's abuse. Ying Shu bravely intervenes and drives the male ghost away, allowing A Juan to stay by his side, living harmoniously with the five disciples. Soon, the male ghost returns with accomplices seeking revenge, but Ying Shu and his disciples showcase their abilities to drive the ghosts away once again. A Juan also transforms from a victim into a confident figure in front of her husband, and thereafter, she practices ghost-catching techniques with the disciples daily. A group of foreign gangsters learns about the treasure hidden in the mansion and disguises themselves as church members to kill Ying Shu and others to seize the gold...
