In a time of war, a farm in the English countryside maintains a peaceful scene. Mrs. Green (Maggie Gyllenhaal) runs the family farm alone while waiting for her husband to return home from military service. The farm and her three mischievous children consume her energy, and her wasteful relative Phil (Rhys Ifans) constantly comes around, pestering her. It turns out Phil has incurred gambling debts and is trying to use the Green family farm to settle them, persistently rejected yet undeterred. Even more troubling for Mrs. Green is that her nephew and niece are coming to stay in the countryside to escape the war. The pampered cousins clash with the Green kids, leading to a chaotic family battle that nearly drives Mrs. Green to the brink. Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) appears just in time to help Mrs. Green. She uses her magic to quickly end the chaos and stays on to teach the children. During their time on the farm, McPhee teaches the kids five life lessons that are beneficial for a lifetime, and her previously ugly appearance begins to change in the process... This film is a sequel to the 2005 movie "Nanny McPhee," but the two stories are not directly related.
