This film is the last work starring Rain before his enlistment, touted as the Korean version of "Top Gun." The movie is a remake of the 1964 air combat film "Red Scarf" directed by Shin Sang-ok, set against the backdrop of the Korean War. The pilot Tae-hoon (played by Jung Ji-hoon) of the Air Force special flight team known as "Black Hawk" causes chaos during an aerial performance by using the prohibited flying technique "engine-off deceleration," leading to his transfer to the "21st Fighting Squadron." Within the squadron, Tae-hoon befriends fellow trainee Yoo-jin and junior Suk-hyun, gradually adapting to the new environment. However, he often clashes with Jeok-hee, known internally as the "Sniper God," culminating in a fierce air battle in F15K jets where Tae-hoon faces defeat for the first time. Subsequently, he teams up with the best mechanic, Se-young, to participate in the "Boramae Air Shooting Competition" to regain his self-esteem. One day, an unidentified enemy aircraft attacks above Seoul, and the unprepared 21st Fighting Squadron engages in a desperate battle. Despite suffering heavy losses, they manage to regain control. The entire peninsula falls into a greater conspiracy, and the 21st Fighting Squadron ultimately orders the execution of a special operations plan—R2B: Return to Base.
