Ip Man (Donnie Yen) brings his family to Hong Kong, struggling to make ends meet. He opens a martial arts school to promote Wing Chun but finds no one is interested. One day, Huang Liang (Huang Xiaoming) visits, and after a sparring match, he willingly brings a group of friends to study under Ip Man. Huang Liang gets into a fight with members of the Hung Gar school and is captured. Ip Man comes to the rescue but runs into his former rival, Jin Shan Zhao (Fan Siu-Wong). The two resolve their past grievances, but are stopped by Hung Gar's master, Hung Zhen Nan (Sammo Hung), leading to everyone being arrested by the police (Eric Tsang). Hung Zhen Nan warns Ip Man that in order to run a martial arts school in Hong Kong, he must accept challenges from major schools. Ip Man then confronts him, resulting in a match where both are evenly matched. Due to refusing to pay the fees, Ip Man is harassed by the Hung clan, leading to his school being shut down. Behind the scenes, Hung Zhen Nan manages a match for British police but feels unfairly treated without compensation. Boxing champion Tornado arrives in China and insults Chinese martial arts, injuring a Chinese boxer. Hung Zhen Nan steps in, resulting in bloodshed. For the honor of Chinese martial arts, Ip Man accepts Tornado's challenge and fights for national pride…
