In China, Dr. Indiana Jones (played by Harrison Ford) makes a deal with a Shanghai gang leader, who betrays him after obtaining the ashes of Nurhaci and attempts to eliminate Jones. At a critical moment, the clever little boy Short Round (played by Jonathan Ke Quan) saves Dr. Jones and a singer named Willie (played by Kate Capshaw), who was unknowingly caught up in the situation. The three of them survive a plane crash and, after jumping out, drift on a rubber raft to a village in India. Here, the river is dried up, crops are devastated, famine is rampant, and the people are suffering. The locals blame the calamity on the evil spirit of the Palace of Pankow and view the "heaven-sent" Jones and his friends as incarnations of deities, requesting that Jones help them retrieve the sacred stone and all the kidnapped children. The palace indeed is full of strange occurrences, ruled by a childish tyrant, while the nobles feast on leeches, giant pythons, beetles, and monkey brains. Inside the palace, there are numerous traps, and by accident, they witness a bloody cult sacrificial ceremony… This battle is destined to be extremely difficult!
