Bandits are rampant, and Mu Ling (played by Ye Yuping) fights bravely against them with her father Sheng. Although they manage to repel the bandits, Sheng is killed. When the officials arrive, instead of offering help, they loot Mu's village. Ling, feeling indignant, accidentally kills the official leader and is thus hunted down. During her escape, the silk merchant Du Ming (played by Wu Qiming) aids her and helps her evade capture. Han Yu (played by Liu Ximing), a trainer from the Eastern Factory, admires Ling's courage and orchestrates her recruitment into the assassin organization formed by the Eastern Factory. Ling, feeling resentful, tries to escape multiple times but eventually accepts Yu's guidance. The factory chief (played by Xu Zhongxin) inspects the training and suspects Ling of harboring ill intentions, ordering Yu to kill her. Yu designs a way to save Ling and even guarantees her safety with his own life, deepening their bond. The factory chief assigns Ling to a mission to slaughter the family of a righteous official, but Ling realizes it is the Du family and cannot bear to proceed. The factory chief orders Yu to kill Ling, but Yu creates an opportunity for her to escape. When the chief learns of this, he sends his men to hunt down both of them, and they find themselves outnumbered. Du Ming, who has narrowly escaped his own danger, appears and perishes together with the chief. Yu and Ling manage to escape, embarking on a journey together.
