Wealthy French businessman Alain (Fernando Rey) operates the largest heroin smuggling network in the world. Despite the police's multiple attempts to track him down, he remains elusive, and undercover officers are brutally murdered. Meanwhile, in New York City, Detective Doyle (Gene Hackman) and Russo (Roy Scheider) are still battling local drug dealers in a bar, completely unaware that Alain is planning to smuggle $32 million worth of heroin into the United States. Not long after, during a surveillance operation, Doyle and Russo quickly uncover the connection between suspicious individuals and the drug network, leading to a perilous, protracted battle of wits against the drug gang. As this duo, who have little regard for each other, concocts strategies and dodges hidden threats, will they ultimately crack this large-scale drug case from France? This film is adapted from Robin Moore's true story and won the 44th Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
