Before the Northern Expedition of the National Revolutionary Army, the warlord-ruled areas were lawless; corrupt officials bullied the common people, street rascals oppressed the villages, the behavior of petty people was despicable, and their faces were laughable. In the film, Liu Sanmāzi represents these petty people. Liu San, from being an informant to becoming a public security officer and then a squad leader, acted recklessly and displayed numerous ridiculous behaviors, akin to Dongshi trying to imitate another, causing everyone to burst into laughter. Today's society, which values freedom and rule of law, is vastly different from the past, and figures like Liu San cannot exist. Therefore, this film adopts a comedic approach to make the audience laugh.
