11-year-old Jonas lives in Germany with his mother and younger brother. After having an argument with his mother, Jonas makes an excuse and boards a train alone to visit his grandfather in Slovakia. He initially hopes to spend the summer with his grandfather Bernard, but discovers that his grandfather's life has changed since retirement. For Jonas, figuring out how to help his grandfather return to a normal life and reconcile with his mother poses a double challenge. Like all children, Jonas unknowingly grows during this summer.
