The debut feature film "Dad is Dead, but I Don't Want to Cry" by rising Japanese director Makoto Nagakubo won the Special Jury Award for Global Narrative Feature at the Sundance Film Festival and a special mention from the Youth Jury in the Next Generation section at the Berlin International Film Festival. It tells the story of four teenagers who face the death of their parents but find themselves unable to shed genuine tears, like cold-blooded zombies. They decide to form a band and embark on a quest to find their tears of blood. The film uses a fun RPG game format, allowing the audience to join the characters in battling and overcoming challenges. Besides the impressive performances from the young cast, it also features veteran actors such as Masatoshi Nagase, Rinko Kikuchi, Sota Matsuda, and Koji Seto, representing different generations.
