Praised as an outstanding romantic musical film in the history of Hong Kong cinema, its intricate plot combined with singing and dancing is a feast for the eyes. Lin Dai plays a young performer who joins a dance troupe traveling to Japan. In a foreign land, she tries to relieve her loneliness and meets a young man through a personal advertisement; although they have never met, they have already developed feelings for each other through their letters. Unbeknownst to her, he is actually the head of the dance troupe! This role is played by the leading comic actor Chen Hou, creating a story of star-crossed lovers and a captivating love tale, reminiscent of a nostalgic version of "Online Romance." Lin Dai even won the Best Actress award at the 8th Asian Film Festival for this performance. The film features lavish sets and cinematography, being one of the first to use Technicolor wide-screen, rivaling major Hollywood musical productions of the time. That same year, it also won five awards at the Asian Film Festival, including Best Art Direction, Best Music, Best Editing, and Best Sound; the film went on to win Best Director and Best Music at the first Golden Horse Awards. The movie's songs are melodious, composed by Yao Min and sung by Jing Ting, and they have been popular for half a century.
