One of "Doll Actress" Li Jing's representative works. "Queen of Sky Novels" Xiao Xiang cross-dresses as Luoyang's top scholar Wen Bizheng, who admires the young lady of the Tian Guanfu, Huo Dingjin (Li Jing). In a twist of fate, Wen sells himself into servitude to infiltrate the Huo family, and the two meet and confess their love, secretly vowing to spend their lives together with a phoenix pearl hairpin as a token. Huo's mother forces Dingjin to marry her nephew, but Dingjin refuses and reveals the truth. However, Huo's mother threatens her with death. Dingjin devises a plan, feigning a fire in the mansion, and escapes disguised as a man. Upon reaching the city gate, she is taken in by Liu Taishi as an adoptive son and is appointed as an inspector. Meanwhile, Wen is wrongfully imprisoned and targeted for murder by his mother, and Dingjin learns of this and tries to rescue him... The story is legendary and intricate, with Zhou Lanping and Chen Dieyi's Huangmei tune lyrics being captivating. The performances by the female characters are exceptional, and the scenery is splendid and luxurious; "Female Inspector" achieved box office success in Taiwan and Southeast Asia, with a "golden lineup" both in front of and behind the camera.
