During the Qianlong era, the country is at peace, but anti-Qing forces are also quite active. The fourth leader of the anti-Qing society, the Red Flower Society, Wen Tailai (played by Deng Weishao) and his wife, Luo Bing (played by Chen Qiqi), are trapped by the court’s secret agents in Sandao Gully. They are introduced to the legendary hero Zhou Zhongying (played by Gu Feng) at Iron Courage Manor by Wu Dang sect master Lu Feiqing (played by Wang Rong) to take refuge. Meanwhile, Lu Feiqing's apprentice, Zhang Zhaozhong (played by Luo Lie), who serves the court, follows them and threatens Iron Courage Manor with heavy troops to hand over Wen Tailai. Although Wen hides in a secret passage, he is betrayed when Zhang tricks Zhou Zhongying’s young son into revealing Wen's hiding place. Luo Bing and Yu Yutong (played by Gu Guanzhong) manage to escape, and they encounter Red Flower Society's leader, Chen Jialuo (played by Ti Long), and return to Iron Courage Manor together. At the same time, Zhou Zhongying returns from an outing and learns of the turmoil at the manor, angrily killing his son. After a struggle, misunderstandings between Iron Courage Manor and the Red Flower Society are cleared, and grudges are resolved. Zhou also takes his daughter to join the Red Flower Society in rescuing Wen Tailai... This film is adapted from the original novel of the same name by the martial arts novelist Jin Yong.
