The Qing court, viewing the Shaolin Temple as a thorn in its side, used intelligence provided by spies planted in the temple to summon various masters to set fire to Shaolin Temple, intent on wiping out the Shaolin disciples in one fell swoop. The attack came suddenly, and after a hasty battle, nine out of ten monks and lay disciples perished. After narrowly escaping, Fang Dahong (Meng Fei) fled to Guangdong to meet with Li Shikai (Qi Guanjun) to discuss how to continue the fight against the Qing and restore the Ming. Meanwhile, Hu Dedi (Jiang Dawei), Cai Dezhong (Di Long), Ma Chaoshing (Fu Sheng), and others headed north to the Central Plains, desperately searching for the traitor within the temple, determined to avenge their fallen Shaolin brethren. The five initially doubted Shaolin kung fu, but later realized that it was not the fault of the martial art but their own lack of skill. Consequently, they devoted themselves to training and eventually attained mastery, earning the title “Shaolin Five Ancestors” in later generations.
