The story takes place during the Southern Song Dynasty, where Yue Fei marches north to combat the Jins. The treacherous minister Qin Kuai colludes with the Jin people, falsely claiming an imperial decree and forging a gold medal to deliver to Yue Fei, compelling him to return to the court with his troops. The Huashan swordsman Miao Long (played by Yue Hua) learns of Qin Kuai's scheme and leads a group of capable individuals to intercept the gold medal midway, also thwarting assassins sent by the Ju Xian Tang to kill Yue Fei. When Ju Xian Tang loses its leader, Qin Kuai recruits Huashan's Jian Jin Yan Tang (played by Jing Miao) as the new hall master, effectively making him a puppet. Jin Yan Tang is Miao Long's master, and his daughter Jin Shuo (played by Qin Ping) deeply admires the impressive Miao Long. Unwilling to let go of his plans for the gold medal, Qin Kuai continues to make secret arrangements. After Miao Long discovers the connection between Jin Yan Tang and Qin Kuai, he is forced to betray his sect and sever his feelings for Jin Shuo, causing her great anguish as she remains unaware of the truth.
