Selma (Björk), a Czech immigrant working in a rural factory in America, is inherently kind-hearted, but her vision is gradually becoming blurred due to a congenital disease. In order to prevent her son, who has inherited the condition, from suffering the same fate, Selma works hard every day. Her unaware friend and colleague Linda (Catherine Deneuve) tries to comfort her with kind words out of concern, but Selma always replies with a smile, for she still has a pure world of music that provides beauty and tranquility, enough to withstand the bitterness and difficulties of reality. What comforts her is that, before her sight completely fails, she has basically gathered the necessary funds for her son's surgery. However, at this moment, an unexpected event occurs, and her fate is pushed toward a complex and tragic situation.
