The wealthy man Xue Zicheng from Maicheng encountered a strange incident at home. His second wife dreamed of rain falling from the sky, which turned into blood upon reaching the ground. Xue Zicheng, skeptical of the supernatural, casually sprinkled water on the ground with a watering can and discovered the words "Blood Debts Must Be Paid in Blood" appearing on the floor in blood… Under the guidance of a feng shui master, Xue Zicheng spent a fortune to acquire a holy object for warding off evil—Buddha's finger relic—and deliberately built a shrine in his home to worship it. However, he died on the spot while making his first offering, his Seven Orifices bleeding to death, leaving behind three beautiful wives in mourning. This caused a stir throughout Maicheng. After five years, Xue Zimu returned to his hometown only to encounter his older brother’s sudden death. Everyone in the family spoke vaguely, hesitant to reveal the truth, including his first love, Lan Zhi, who later became his sister-in-law. It seemed to hint that the deep mansion of the Xue family harbored an unspeakable secret… The local police, corrupt and incompetent, hastily concluded it was a normal death without a thorough investigation. Xue Zimu deduced from the clues that his brother had been murdered and resolved to uncover the truth. After Xue Zicheng's death, the reactions of his three wives varied. The first wife wept bitterly while holding her son, the second wife immediately threw a black medicine bottle and silver needle hidden in her vanity into the pond, and the third wife, Liu Yingying, clamored for her share of the inheritance to return to her family. Xue Zimu observed all this closely. Currently, the biggest suspect is the second wife, Pei Yun. Xue Zimu initially judged that his elder brother died from poisoning, and the discarded medicine bottle held by Pei Yun contained a lethal liquid. However, Pei Yun soon died mysteriously in the same shrine where the relic was housed, in a manner identical to Xue Zicheng's death. Tests revealed that the liquid in the bottle was not the cause of Xue Zicheng's death, thus eliminating Pei Yun as a murder suspect. Xue Zicheng had been poisoned with snake venom, a method traditionally used by people from Lingnan. This revelation terrified both the family and the servants. According to the first wife's maid, Mama Ju, there had been a maid named Yue Mei who was to become the fourth wife. She died last summer from postpartum wind, and she was from Lingnan! The third wife, Liu Yingying, became unusually anxious upon learning that Xue Zimu had discovered the cause of death. Xue Zimu found out that she was having an affair with a tailor, Shen, plotting to elope. He devised a plan to thwart their scheme, but unexpectedly, the non-believer in Buddhism, Liu Yingying, also died in the shrine, similarly collapsing while burning incense, having also fallen victim to snake venom. Despite several thorough inspections, no source of the poison was found. The first wife, Lan Zhi, realized everything and volunteered to worship the relic. To ensure safety, Xue Zimu insisted that every item Lan Zhi touched pass through his hands first, but she still succumbed to poison in front of him. In his grief and fury, Xue Zimu suddenly found clarity in numerous clues, realizing everything: Yue Mei and the first wife gave birth on the same day. The second wife had been infertile for years; knowing that Yue Mei's child was the offspring of Steward Song, she threatened him to kill Yue Mei’s baby. Coincidentally, the first wife birthed a stillborn, and Steward Song took advantage of the situation to deceive Yue Mei into thinking her fetus had died. The third wife, secretly involved with the tailor, bore a grudge after being caught by Yue Mei. They used the stillborn's bad omen to manipulate the superstitious Xue Zicheng, leading to Yue Mei's drowning. Steward Song, unexpectedly executing this order, kept Yue Mei alive, allowing her to escape the Xue residence. The trauma sent Yue Mei nearly insane… A year later, Yue Mei's sister, Mama Ju, entered the Xue household disguised as a servant to avenge her sister. In reality, the poison was smeared on the incense; every worshipper burned incense to pay their respects, and once the incense burned out, the source of the poison was naturally lost.
