In 1945, as World War II approached its end, Japan, a major member of the Axis powers, was at its last gasp of arrogance. That year marked the beginning of the Battle of Okinawa, which would determine the course of the war, with thousands of spirited American soldiers sent to Okinawa, facing heavy enemy defenses and the perilous Hacksaw Ridge. Among these soldiers was a medic who refused to pick up a weapon. His name was Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), hailing from Virginia, USA. At the outbreak of the Pacific War, the frail Desmond volunteered as a medic to save lives and enlisted in the army. However, due to childhood experiences and family reasons, he was unwilling to handle firearms, even willing to face court-martial for his stance against carrying a weapon. After many twists and turns, Desmond finally arrived at Hacksaw Ridge with his comrades. Amidst the hail of gunfire, countless soldiers fell. Supported by his faith and conviction, Desmond single-handedly saved dozens of lives on the brink of death... This film is based on a true story.
