In Israel, there is no civil marriage or civil divorce; all marriages and divorces must be authorized by a Jewish rabbi to be considered "legal." However, the husband’s rights often outweigh those of the arbitrator. "Lawsuit" tells the story set against this backdrop. The protagonist, Vivian Amsalem, filed for divorce three years ago, but her husband, Elisha, does not agree. Even though Elisha refuses to compromise, Vivian is determined to fight for her freedom, though the religious arbitrator's attitude remains ambiguous. In the tug-of-war involving the three parties, scenes of tragedy and absurdity continue to unfold.
