General Macbeth (played by Michael Fassbender) is the cousin of King Duncan of Scotland (played by David Thewlis). He has achieved great military success by defending against external enemies and restoring order. One day, on his way home, he encounters three witches who prophesize that Macbeth will gain power and titles, igniting his ambition. However, it is ultimately the son of General Banquo (played by Paddy Considine) who is destined to inherit the throne. Under the urging of his wife (played by Marion Cotillard), Macbeth kills the king and ascends to the throne. To secure his position and keep his regicide a secret, Macbeth’s hands are stained with blood, and General Banquo, Lady Macduff (played by Elizabeth Debicki), and her children all fall victim to Macbeth's bloody path, leading him further into madness.
