The Southern Song Dynasty was a period where it's difficult to distinguish between humans and demons. The monk Fahai (played by Zhao Wenzhuo) was capturing妖精 everywhere, disturbing the two snakes, Bai and Qing, who were cultivating at the bottom of West Lake. Qing (played by Maggie Cheung) was saved by Bai (played by Joey Wong), and they called each other sisters. The two sisters disguised themselves as humans to live among the people; Bai married the honest scholar Xu Xian, and Qing also took a liking to Xu Xian, often seducing him with her charms, but Xu Xian only loved Bai.
