"Hu Du Men" refers to the stage entrance for actors in Cantonese opera. Crossing the Hu Du Men signifies dedicating oneself wholeheartedly to the performance. Leng Jianxin (played by Siu Fong Fong) is a renowned Cantonese opera singer who has dazzled audiences for thirty years and has many fans. Now, facing her husband’s business failure and wanting to immigrate to Australia with her family, Jianxin must face the decision of whether to leave the stage for good. At the same time, Jianxin is entangled in domestic affairs as her daughter has unexpectedly started dating a "girlfriend," a fact that is hard for her to accept even though she plays male roles on stage. During this time, the troupe sees the emergence of a new young star, Ye Yushuang (played by Yuen Yong Yi). Recognizing her potential, Jianxin takes her in as a goddaughter after witnessing her being abused by her adoptive father. Meanwhile, her daughter’s boyfriend Ah Jun (played by Chen Xiao Dong), who comes from Canada to see Yushuang, is revealed to be Jianxin's illegitimate son from her younger days in Nanyang, bringing back memories of her decision to give up raising him for the stage...At the farewell performance, with her oblivious son in the audience, the choked-up Jianxin finally steps through the Hu Du Men, tears in her eyes...
