In the early 18th century, deep within the primeval jungles east of the Carpathian Mountains, an ancient and isolated village experiences the horrific murder of a young girl at night. The essence of the devil permeates the forest, and on this cursed land, evil spirits emerge, bringing the locals their most terrifying nightmares. Meanwhile, Jonathan Green (played by Jason Flemyng), a young and ambitious English scientist and cartographer, is discovered in a romance with a wealthy young lady, leading to his father's furious reprimand and expulsion. Carrying a longing for the girl, Jonathan embarks on a journey eastward, during which he loses his way and inadvertently stumbles upon the cursed village.
