Online writer Zhong Hua (Yin Fang) is an outsider; he is an underground rock singer and a professional hacker. He helps the owner of a music company, Xu Tian (Guo Jinglin), with some shady dealings. By chance, he gets involved with an unknown singer, Meng Meng (Huang Huan), and unfortunately, she turns out to be the boss's lover... Just as Zhong Hua is feeling lost, he receives a package from his estranged father, Zhong Zhenqing (Zhao Youliang), which contains a poignant story from the Cultural Revolution era. The story's protagonist is a literary girl named Shi Yanping (Ni Hongjie), who has an extraordinary past and co-wrote a life-changing song with her classmate Chen Dong (Huang Xuan). It turns out she has intricate connections with Zhong Hua. As Zhong Hua learns about the stories of the previous generation, he gradually understands them, and he ultimately reconciles with his father and mother through a song, finding his own path.
