Best Colombian Film Award at the 2007 Bogotá Film Festival Best Colombian Film Award at the 2008 Cartagena Film Festival Second Place Audience Award at the 2008 Lima Latin American Film Festival Special Jury Award at the 2007 San Sebastián International Film Festival Based on the psychological thriller novel of the same name by Mario Mendoza, the film "Satanás" is directed by Colombian newcomer Andres Baiz and became a hit last year. The novel itself is based on the 1986 "Pozzetto Massacre" that occurred in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia—an incident where a Vietnam War veteran killed 29 mostly unknown strangers and then committed suicide (according to the Wikipedia entry, there were 30 dead and the killer was shot by the police). The film tells the stories of three different groups of characters: a mother who kills her three children and a priest striving to be faithful to God; Paula, who is forced into prostitution; and an English teacher who was once a Vietnam soldier alongside her student Natalia... In a world overshadowed by their inner fears, desires, pain, and external temptations, they all struggle in search of love, redemption, and a second chance... However, in the end, their selfishness and insecurity lead to their ultimate downfall...
