Brown (played by Colin Firth) lost his wife a year ago, leaving him with seven mischievous children. Exhausted from his work all day, Brown returns home to deal with these little troublemakers. He has hired 16 nannies, but none have been able to handle these spirited kids. To make matters worse, his domineering aunt has given him an ultimatum: if he cannot find a mother for the children within a month, she will no longer support their living expenses. If the heavily indebted Brown fails to receive his aunt's support, he could very well end up in jail. Life seems hopeless at this point. Just when Brown feels desperate, an extremely unattractive woman appears at his doorstep. She introduces herself as Nanny McPhee (played by Emma Thompson) and offers to be the children's nanny. McPhee possesses magical powers, and no matter how the children plan to prank her, they fail every time. Sometimes, their mischief even backfires on themselves.
