Based on the article "Game Brain" by Jeanne Marie Laskas published in GQ in 2009, the film primarily depicts Dr. Bennett Omalu, a brain neurologist who first discovered that athletes are prone to a chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) that can lead them to have suicidal thoughts. The story is adapted from real events, recounting how Bennett Omalu, an American brain neurologist, was the first to identify that American football players have a high probability of developing chronic brain disease due to their profession, and he decided to publicize this research. However, this study faced strong denial from the National Football League, leading Bennett to confront a crisis that would severely impact his career.
