The petite man Afeng (played by Hu Shufen) sounds like he has a woman's name. He quits his enviable civil servant job, leaves his girlfriend (played by He Lan), and comes to Beijing to seek his fortune alone. Barely finding his footing in Beijing, Afeng ends up in such dire straits that he can't even afford a bowl of hot and sour noodles. After being evicted by his landlord for failing to pay rent, he has no choice but to sleep on the streets. Nevertheless, he is confident and believes there is no turning back; he lies to his girlfriend on the phone, claiming he has started a company in Beijing, which makes her look at him in a new light. One day, a company owner, Boss Li (played by Ren Dawei), takes in the famished Afeng. After a hearty meal, Afeng's incessant and grandiose speeches convince Li that he is someone who can be utilized. Afeng lives up to his mission, providing a complete makeover for Boss Li, who quickly gains a reputation. However, trouble soon follows, as the previously unknown Boss Li finds himself inundated with creditors demanding repayment...
